How to store a perfume
Once you have your desired perfumes it is important to know how to properly store them. To guarantee the quality and longevity of your perfumes, it's crucial to store them carefully. Due of their fragile nature, perfumes can be damaged by elements including light, heat, and moisture. I will share some advice on how to store your perfumes in this blog post so you can keep them in top condition.
Store in a cool, dark place
Strong light and heat can cause can cause the liquid of a fragrance to degrade over time. Your perfumes should be kept in a cold, dark location like a drawer or closet. Avoid placing your perfumes in heat spots such next to a heating vent or anywhere in direct sunlight.
Keep away from humidity
Quality may also be impacted by humidity. The fragrance may degrade and lose its effectiveness when exposed to moisture, so it is important to not keep your perfumes in places that may be very humid.
Maintain it at a consistent temperature
The quality of your fragrance might also be harmed by extremely high or low temperatures. Even if you manage to find a place that is completely dark to keep your fragrance, you still need to think about whether the space will be vulnerable to hot sun or chilly winds from a neighbouring window or door.
Do not store in a bathroom
A common mistake that people make is keeping their fragrances in a bathroom. A bathroom not only holds high levels of humidity but also fluctuating temperatures which both lead to the degradation of the liquid.
How to apply a fragrance
It is important to know how to properly apply your fragrance as this makes a big difference with how it performs on you and how it is perceived by others. These are some tips on how to apply to get the most out of your perfume:
Apply directly to pulse points
Applying perfume on pulse points, where blood vessels are closest to the skin, is the secret to making it last and project from your body. These regions include the neck, behind the ears, and the wrists. Apply a small amount to each pulse point and the stronger the concentration, the less amount sprays needed.
Apply to hydrated skin
When perfume touches dry skin, it will quickly evaporate. So that the perfume can cling to your skin, make sure your skin is hydrated before applying it. The best approach to do that is to first apply some Vaseline, unscented body lotion, or moisturiser.
Do not rub it in
Many people may spray their fragrance on their wrists then rub them together and it is the best way to ensure your fragrance does not last. Top notes might become dulled by rubbing your wrists together. Additionally, it blends your natural oils with the perfume, which may alter how it smells.
Do not overspray
A useful rule of thumb is around 3-5 sprays for higher concentrations and up to 8 for EDT concentrations. This will avoid your fragrance from being too strong and overpowering around others. If you feel as though you cannot smell your fragrance on yourself after a while, this is likely to be noseblindess. When you are noseblind to a scent, it means that your brain has become accustomed to the smell and no longer registers it as strongly as it did when you first sprayed it. This can make it difficult to detect the scent, even if it is still present. A good practice is to ask others around if they can detect it on you and it would be most likely that they can.
How to layer fragrances
Layering is a creative and enjoyable approach to personalise your fragrance and make it stand out. It involves combining two or more fragrances to create a new unique scent. Here are some basic tips and strategies for the process of layering:
Choose fragrances with complementary notes
It's important to select perfumes that blend well together when layering fragrances. For instance, a fruity perfume might be matched with a fresh or citrusy scent, while a flowery scent can be paired with a woodsy or musky one. Try out various combinations to see which one suits you the best.
Use fragrances with similar notes
Those with similar kinds of notes can also be used to enhance each other. For example, a leather based fragrance can be used along with another leather based fragrance that can help enhance the notes and create a more harmonious scent. It is important to combine fragrances that have at least one common note between them.
Don't combine two heavy scents
When layering scents, using a heavy and a light scent can produce a more well-balanced and fascinating scent experience. A heavy fragrance can provide a strong and long lasting base that keeps it from fading too rapidly. A lighter scent, such as a citrus or fresh perfume, can, on the other hand, give the fragrance a brighter and more uplifting component. Additionally, it can contribute to a more balanced smell experience by bringing down the intensity of the base aroma.
